DLC has been managing debt since 1992 and is regarded as one of the UK’s leading debt management providers. The company recovers consumer and commercial debt on behalf of clients from a range of industries including the Telecoms, Utilities, Insurance and Finance sectors.
DLC initially approached Esendex to provide a bulk outbound text messaging service as an additional channel when initiating contact with debtors.
"We already use a range of communication methods when collecting debt including the telephone, direct mail and email. We recognised we needed to introduce SMS to provide an additional channel to contact debtors. What we didn’t necessarily expect was for SMS to prove to be so successful for us."
When compared to the other communication channels available to DLC, SMS is a very direct, immediate and low cost option. SMS has also provided them with a key differentiator from many of their competitors.
Initially DLC chose to launch Esendex’s send-only Business SMS service. The improvement in contact rates and low running costs resulted in the service being upgraded to a ‘send and receive’ SMS service to give debtors the opportunity to reply to messages.
DLC then decided to take this to the next stage. They now send over 250,000 letters every month and give debtors the option to text to a specified mobile number requesting a call back. This message is filtered into the correct area and ensures that DLC responds as quickly as possible. This encourages a response from debtors as DLC incur the cost of the telephone call.
Esendex’s SMS service has proven to be popular with debtors as they can contact DLC without speaking to anyone initially. Now DLC can provide a complete communication solution via email, telephone, letter and SMS.
