Vehicle finance brokers Auto Union Finance are delighted with the Esendex PC SMS service - it’s saving them thousands of pounds a year and giving them a serious competitive edge over rivals.
The company is probably the UK’s largest independent finance brokerage. It specialises in negotiating the best possible deals for companies and individuals financing vehicle purchases.
The process of arranging finance requires close contact between AUF sales staff and dealers - but that can be time-consuming and expensive. By using a specially automated text messaging system rather than the phone, the company is saving up to £5,000 a year in call costs - on top of that is a huge time saving. AUF’s IT specialist Wayne Alger, says:
"It sounds impersonal but it’s incredibly efficient and it means our sales staff and the dealers are updated instantly with any developments. No-one’s hanging around waiting to hear what’s happening. Everyone’s happy."
AUF believes its texting system gives it a serious competitive advantage over rivals and is keen not to divulge how it works. But Wayne admits it nearly went disastrously wrong. AUF initially used another SMS service provider who tried to cut costs by routing the messages internationally. But because many undesirable bulk messages also come from abroad many of AUF’s legitimate text messages were being automatically blocked by mobile phone service providers in Britain. Wayne says:
"We were getting dealers ringing us to find out what was happening and we were saying ‘haven’t you received our text message’. Other messages were taking two days to get through and that just caused confusion. We’d have a deal financed and completed and then the dealer would receive a message saying the finance request had just been accepted and they’d be on the phone to us again!"
Now AUF’s text messages arrive every time - in seconds rather than days - and they cost less too. Wayne estimates that by switching to Esendex he’s cut text messaging costs at AUF by £840 a year.
