Since implementing the Esendex Web SMS service, The Sisters of St Joseph have improved staff communications considerably and have also saved money in the process.
The Sisters of St Josephs Aged Care provide physical, emotional and spiritual support to the frail, aged and people who require extended care. Their services include both residential and community care to over 270 clients. Co-ordinating the work of staff for all 270 clients, based both residentially and in the community was previously very difficult and labour intensive. The nature of the work means that the staff need to be very both flexible and adaptable in their work in order to provide the best possible care for their clients.
The management are in regular contact with their staff as rosters can change at short notice, extra cover may be needed urgently, or client appointment times may change. Before implementing Web SMS, any changes such as these were communicated to staff by telephone. A spokesperson for Sisters of St Joseph explains:
“Contacting staff via verbal communications or on mobile phones was an inefficient use of both staff time and money. It was these financial and time management issues that led us to trialling the Esendex Web SMS service.”
Sisters of St Josephs researched various SMS providers before choosing Web SMS from Esendex, mainly due to the free support service and intuitive interface of the product.
Web SMS has proven to be much cheaper than using the telephone, reducing their mobile phone bills. Information can now be conveyed to staff in a convenient manner and there’s no more waiting around for staff to answer their phones. Another benefit which was to some extent unexpected was the proof of delivery of a message that SMS provides. Sent SMS messages can be easily tracked, offering traceability and if a message isn’t received for whatever reason, this can be picked up on straight away.
“We now have Web SMS which is both quick and efficient. The Esendex system tracks sent messages which allows us to monitor any undelivered messages so we can address the problem immediately.”
Sisters of St Josephs are now looking for new possible uses for the SMS service, which will reduce administration and allow them to concentrate on providing the best possible care for their elderly clients.
