Aviva Australia has saved $32,000 in a year since implementing the Esendex SMS API service for SMS server alerts and system monitoring. Such has been the value of the SMS service they are now investigating the use of SMS for both staff and customer communications.
Aviva Australia is owned by the National Australia Bank, one of Australia’s major banks. The business has operated in Australia for over 150 years and today it manages or administers $17.1 billion in fund and has more than 430,000 customers.
Aviva already had a SMS server monitoring solution in place when they initially got in touch with Esendex. Previously, Aviva used Telstra as their SMS provider, and purchased server monitoring software from them, which included SMS functionality. SMS messages were regularly sent to notify users about any system problems that arose. This allowed Aviva to respond quickly to any issues, minimising cost and any disruption to the business.
However, when they were faced with a large cost to upgrade their software, so they could continue with SMS alerting, they researched the market for alternatives. They approached Esendex and found the SMS API was a low-cost viable solution for them. The Esendex SMS API integrates directly with existing applications so no software is required to have SMS alerts up and running. After a short amount of Development work Aviva could switch from Telstra to Esendex, with no loss of service.
As they are no longer locked-in to Telstra’s SMS alerting software, and the associated SMS messaging costs has delivered some significant savings for the business. IT Procurement Director comments:
“There was a $30,000 saving straight away as we didn’t have to purchase the new software from Telstra to continue with SMS alerts. We are now also saving 3-6 cents per message as we buy our SMS messages from Esendex. As we send about 2,500 SMS a month, we’re saving about $150 per month on our messaging costs.”
Since implementing the Esendex SMS API for system monitoring and seeing the benefits, Aviva are looking for new opportunities to use SMS within their business. A review of SMS for staff and client communications is currently underway.
